American rap star Kanye West has unveiled new material during an impromptu visit to the offices of Facebook.

Kanye West loves social networking. Keeping in touch with fans through his blog and Twitter, the rapper has allowed people to see a different, very personal side to him.

Yet his also prone to behaving erratically. Inadvertently leaking a Peter, Bjorn & John track on his website (because he liked it) the rapper followed this up with the now infamous Taylor Swift awards show moment.

Withdrawing from the glare of public life, Kanye West is now almost finished work on a new album. To allow fans to hear the tracks the rapper recently played an impromptu show - at the offices of Facebook.

On the surface a bizarre move, the more ClashMusic thinks about it the more logical it becomes. Perhaps we're just being drawn into the madness of Kanye West...

The rapper was apparently due to meet with Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg, when he leaped onto a table and given a rendition of several new tracks. The rapper performed a new poem called 'Mama's Boyfriend' along with new tracks 'My Chain Heavy', 'Sweat on My Face' and 'Lost in the World'.

"Many times in life I've had to deal with moments of doubt. And as it's been a minute since I've performed any fresh material in front of an audience, this could've been one of those moments… but it wasn't," Kanye West later wrote on his blog.

"Your energy was a gift so electric, so genuine, that it really helped me give my best. The energy was so inspiring I had to keep going! I just hope you got as much from me as I got from you… which was everything! Love to all my fans, especially at Facebook."

Rolling Stone quotes several lyrics from the new tracks, including the racially charged 'My Chain Heavy'. Kanye West raps: "I keep that G.O.A.T. book on the Ottoman, and wrote hooks about slaves that were slaughtered in the eighteen-hundreds, you all forget that I got called 'nigga' on Twitter so many times, yo I lived that. Now I'm just trying to find where to raise my kids at".

Kanye West is due to release his new album later this year.
