American rap star Eminem has knocked Arcade Fire off the top spot after just a week at number one.
Released earlier this summer, Eminem's 'Recovery' has been one of the year's defining albums. Hugely successful, it has slaughtered all competitors in the race for number slot on the British charts.
Plan B, Lady Gaga, Tom Jones have all come and gone however it was Canadian indie giants Arcade Fire who gave him a serious run for his money. Released to widespread acclaim, 'The Suburbs' enjoyed strong sales and raced to number one.
Never one to be outdone, Eminem simply rolled up his sleeves. The rapper bounced back from last week's defeat to take the top spot on this week's charts, with 'Recovery' returning to number one.
Seizing the chart pinnacle, Arcade Fire have to make do with number two. 'The Suburbs' remains a critical darling, however, and you can read our view HERE.
Organising a lengthy British tour for December, the Canadian band are set to step up their live commitments. Now entering the world of arenas, Arcade Fire released tickets on Friday (August 13th) with enormous sales.
Expect 'The Suburbs' to linger around the charts for a while. Elsewhere, Plan B's unavoidable 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks' remains at number three, with its retro-soul still selling strongly.
Eliza Doolittle remains at number four, while Lady Gaga returned to the Top Five. Tom Jones drops a few places to number seven, with his gritty, warts and all return 'Praise & Blame'.
The label may not have wanted to release it, but it seems that the public retain a special place in their hearts for Tom Jones. An unlikely hit, but the production of Ethan Jones pushes 'Praise & Blame' into a new direction.
