Fans of Guns N Roses were in a panic last night (August 15th) after a Tweet from Axl Rose led them to believe they were pulling out of Reading and Leeds.
Guns N Roses remain one of the most controversial bands on the planet. Axl Rose is battling court cases in the United States, with the band's upcoming set at Reading and Leeds being surrounded in rumour.
A Twitter update from Axl Rose last night caused a panic amongst fans. Apparently pulling out of Reading and Leeds, the singer seemed to confirm that all upcoming live appearances had been cancelled.
The posting was re-Tweeted by Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, who seemed to suggest that Green Day were in line to replace the band. A Twitter update from the punk trio hinted at a possible last minute show.
"Lollapalooza was amazing! Best festival in america! Chicago was perfect location! Highlight-screwing up lyrics for she's a rebel! Oops.RnL".
Speculation reached fever pitch this morning, when Stateside rumours finally hit British Twitter users. Forced to issue a statement, the organisers of Reading and Leeds denied that rock icons Guns N Roses had pulled out and explained that the Axl Rose Twitter feed had been leaked.
Speaking to the NME, a spokesperson for Reading and Leeds claimed that Guns N Roses are set to play Reading and Leeds as planned. Confirming the news on Twitter, the festival organisers said: "Guns N’ Roses have NOT cancelled their performances at Reading & Leeds, Axl Rose’s twitter account was hacked."
Meanwhile, Zane Lowe laughed about the incident. "Re GnR / RnL, that was a bit of excitement. Nothing like a bit of Festival bill paranoia to pass the time."
Furthermore, fans have pointed out that 'RnL' more likely refers to the lyric 'Rage n Love' from the Green Day track 'Jesus Of Suburbia'. So now we know!
Reading and Leeds takes place between August 27th - 29th.
