Fever Ray are set to break cover with a new single, covering Peter Gabriel's 'Mercy Street'.
Formed by Karin Dreijer Andersson, Fever Ray tend to embark of fairly unexpected projects. The band's celebrated debut album was released in 2008, showcasing an out there electro-pop sound.
Mixing Anderson's typically surreal lyrics with some unusual production, Fever Ray have a flamboyant live show. Set to call time on the project this summer, Karin Dreijer Andersson instead announced a series of American tour dates.
For now, Fever Ray are still ongoing. The group recently returned to the studio to work on new tracks, and are now planning to release an inventive cover of Peter Gabriel's 1986 track 'Mercy Street'.
The former Genesis man scored a worldwide hit with 'Mercy Sreet' in the mid 80s and the track has been subtly reinvented by the Swedish maverick.
Set to be released as a download, the track comes after Peter Gabriel launches a covers project of his own. The singer recorded some of his favourite songs, and invited the authors to tackle his own back catalogue.
Sadly, though, few of the original artists took Gabriel up on his offer. Will the former Genesis man record one of his favourite Fever Ray tracks? Time will tell....
Meanwhile, a bizarre photo of the single's cover artwork has surfaced. Fever Ray have chosen to demonstrate their music through an image of a man dressed as a monkey / monkey dressed as a man.
No sign of a video as yet, but Fever Ray have confirmed a series of British shows. Set to play Glasgow and London, the short burst of shows finishes with a performance at Bestival.
Fever Ray's new single 'Mercy Street' is set to be released later this year. The band have confirmed the following shows:
September
6 Glasgow O2 ABC
8 London Brixton Academy
12 Isle Of Wight Bestival
