Carlos D Interpol Departure

Interpol have revealed that Carlos D had been uneasy about his future for some time.

It's surprising just how widely debated the departure of Carlos D has been. Musically, Interpol can survive without the bass player but it seems his unique style and stage presence will be greatly missed.

Directing his own film back in 2008, Carlos D focussed on the effects of fame. Starring in the production himself, it was clear that the musician was extremely uncomfortable with high levels of recognition.

Departing Interpol earlier this year, he left once the band had completed their new album. Deciding against another world tour, Carlos D announced his intentions to leave the New York band before its release.

Speaking to the NME, drummer Sam Fogarino explained that Interpol had been expecting the move. "Carlos had his foot out the door a long time ago," he explained. "Even on the last record."

Released in 2007 'Our Love To Admire' was followed by an extended period of touring. "His conflict rested in the fact that he enjoyed writing and recording music with the band. It's doing interviews and the travelling roadshow that he didn't want."

In a previous interview, though, Fogarino explained that Carlos D wasn't even a fan of the bass. Recruited to join Interpol, the dapper musician was handed a bass as the lead guitarist position had already been filled.

Set to embark on his own solo career, Carlos D is yet to announce his next move. Interpol, meanwhile, have moved on with the New Yorkers recruiting two new members for their upcoming tour.

Interpol are due to release their new album later this year.
