The Cure could be set to be re-joined by a former member, if Lol Tolhurst gets his way.
The Cure aren't exactly a democratic state. In the band's three decades Robert Smith has hired and fired at will, with the iconic goth frontman remaining the band's sole constant member.
Now a former member aims to get back into the fold. Lol Tolhurst played on The Cure's first four albums, helping to define their unique brand of gothic pop. However the relationship turned sour, with Tolhurst being jettisoned from the band.
Robert Smith argued that the drummer was suffering from a drink problem, telling journalists that Lol Tolhurst was sacked "because he's so useless".
Since then, the pair have only met in court. The drummer sued The Cure for unpaid royalties, while in 1991 Tolhurst took legal action against Robert Smith in attempt to gain part ownership of the band's name.
After three years the court case was finally settled in favour of Robert Smith, who described the case of "very Kafkaesque".
Now, though, the drummer has suggested that they put this behind them. Speaking to fans site Chain Of Flowers the musician explained that he wanted to re-join The Cure and tour the 1981 album 'Faith'.
An early classic, Lol Tolhurst claimed that he had spoken to Robert Smith about the idea and that "the ball is now in Robert's court".
Apparently the pair are now back in touch. Spending two decades estranged, Robert Smith corresponded with Lol Tolhurst about a series of new re-issues, including The Cure's collected BBC Sessions.
Now working with ongoing new project Levinhurst, the drummer has not received a reply from Robert Smith as yet. Of course, the singer remains hugely in demand - The Cure released their thirteenth studio album last year and completed an enormous tour across North America.
