New York dance giants LCD Soundsystem have closed the final night of Leeds Festival.
LCD Soundsystem are about as far away from Guns N Roses as it is possible to get. The New Yorkers mix dance with rock, allowing James Murphy's self-deprecating wit to come to the fore with his acerbic lyrics.
Their third album 'This Is Happening' was given critical plaudits, with Murphy claiming it would be the last by LCD Soundsystem. However in a recent interview with The Quietus the singer backtracked somewhat, arguing that he had only withdrawn from the exhausting cycle of heavy tours.
Closing Leeds festival, LCD Soundsystem were in the mood to party after a spectacular show at sister event Reading. The New Yorkers brought the hits with them, and also commented on the appearance of Guns N Roses.
Going up against the sleaze rockers, LCD Soundsystem claimed that they "don't give a shit about Guns N' Roses" although James Murphy did admit an admiration for former Replacements bass player "Tommy Stinson, which I feel weird about."
The singer also told LCD Soundsystem to give the fans a break after a no doubt exhausting weekend. "Sunday is a tough one because everyone is a little tired and beat up," he said. "You have to just appreciate and remember the audience is a little tired. So you have to give them a break."
Throughout the set the band swapped instruments, with James Murphy at one point returning to the drum kit. A percussion heavy set saw LCD Soundsystem drop seminal single 'Daft Punk Is Playing At My House'.
"You guys must be fucking tired" Murphy said. "Why don't you stay with us instead of going to see the Guns N' Roses man?"
The band are now due to head to the continent, before returning to the UK in November to play a joint tour with Hot Chip.
LCD Soundsystem played:
'Us V Them'
'Drunk Girls'
'Get Innocuous'
