Arcade Fire drummer Jeremy Gara has claimed the band are afraid they won't "connect" with audiences on their arena tour.
Arcade Fire have always had an epic sound, moving beyond indie rock and into the realm of Springsteen. However the band have conversely thrived on a relationship with their audience which goes beyond the usual cold, sterile stadium atmosphere.
The band's new album 'The Suburbs' has prompted a period of change. Arcade Fire have enjoyed huge success, topping both the British and Stateside charts in the first week of release.
Yet this success means that more pressure is heaped on their upcoming UK tour. Arcade Fire are set to play some of the biggest headline dates of their career so far, travelling the length of the country.
Fresh from playing Reading and Leeds, Arcade Fire have become used to massive audiences. Speaking to the NME drummer Jeremy Gara admitted that the band are worried about the effects of increasing the size of the shows they play.
"The fear of playing shows the size we're playing shows now is that you can't connect with the audience," he said. "(Because of) the room, (or if) the sound's bad."
The band are due to play two nights at the O2 Arena in London, on December 1st and 2nd. "From what we hear the O2 (Arena) is already set up to be a great show. As long as we can play well it'll be a good night."
The tour opens in London with a two night stint before Arcade Fire head out across the country. Shows in Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester are set to follow with the tour set to finish in Glasgow's SECC on December 12th.
However fans eager to attend should act quick. Many of the dates are complete sold out, with huge demand for tickets.
