Britpop titans Cast are set to release a deluxe edition of their debut album 'All Change'.
It's difficult to imagine just how far reaching Britpop was. In an era when chillwave artists can make their name from a few thousand downloads, compare this to Cast who sold countless million copies of their debut album.
OK not the trendiest name to drop in conversation but the band's gently melodic touch and daft lyrics endeared them to the nation. Formed by John Power after the collapse of seminal Liverpool group The La's the band were chased by major labels.
Recording their debut album with John Leckie, the result was 'All Change'. Given patronage by Noel Gallagher the band found themselves at the centre of a media whirlwind, sending their singles racing up the charts.
As a result 'All Change' became one of the most successful debut albums of the era. With Cast recently reforming, the band have decided to look back on the life changing events in the summer of 1995.
Adding demos, rare tracks and the stand alone single 'Flying' the expanded version shines a new light on the band's writing techniques. “There are some really great demos John did by himself in his bedroom" John Leckie says.
"Songs like ‘Fine Time’ and ‘Back Of My Mind’ have got that magical quality The La’s Demos had. They feel very precious.”
All told, the album sold over a million copies and helped to define the Britpop sound. Cast would part company in 2001, but recently singer John Power revealed that they planned to re-unite.
Announcing a series of tour dates this Winter, expect to hear more than a few classics from 'All Change'.
Cast are due to release the expanded version of 'All Change' on November 8th. The band have confirmed the following tour dates:
