The Charlatans have been forced to cancel a live appearance after the band's drummer collapsed onstage.
The Charlatans retain a loyal fanbase, with their tours often becoming a celebration of the band's lengthy career. Returning with a rejuvenated album, the band should be having the time of their lives.
However the group were left shocked on Wednesday night (September 15th) after drummer Jon Brookes collapsed onstage. Performing at Philadelphia’s Johnny Brenda’s the musician suddenly collapsed.
The incident occurred shortly into The Charlatans set, with Jon Brookes having stopped breathing. A doctor was in the audience, and after a short bout of medical care the drummer was on the mend when ambulances arrived.
Taking to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Philadelphia Jon Brookes was given emergency treatment, including a CAT scan. Apparently responding well to treatment, the drummer has now been transferred to a general hospital.
As a result of the illness suffered by Jon Brookes the band have been forced to alter their tour schedule. Travelling across the United States, The Charlatans have cancelled a scheduled show in Montreal.
There has been no word on whether this will effect the band's British tour this October. Set to return from the United States shortly, The Charlatans have confirmed a number of shows across the country.
Opening in Hatfield on October 5th, the tour takes in shows across the UK. Set to play Liverpool's O2 Academy on October 11th the whirlwind tour will come to a close with a show in Birmingham on October 23rd.
