Susan Boyle Beats Lou Reed

Susan Boyle is celebrating after Lou Reed allowed her to cover 'Perfect Day' on her forthcoming album.

It was a classic case of opposites. In the red corner a drug addled bi-sexual whose output contains the sound of actual crying. In the blue corner a demure yet reclusive woman from Bathgate who rocketed to fame in the most unlikely of circumstances.

When Susan Boyle attempted to perform 'Perfect Day' on 'American Idol' the singer found Lou Reed blocking her way. Denied permission to allow the song on the show, the humiliated Scots woman reportedly burst into tears.

Immediately flying home, the incident made the newspapers. At the time, some pointed out Lou Reed's apparent hypocrisy after allowing a cast of thousands to massacre the song on a BBC advert fifteen years ago.

Now, though, it seems that Susan Boyle has had her way. A rendition of 'Perfect Day' is set to appear on the singer's forthcoming second album 'The Gift'.

Due for release on November 9th, 'The Gift' follows the record breaking success of Susan Boyle's debut album. The fastest selling release by a British female solo star ever, it should be a difficult act to follow.

However Susan Boyle now has Lou Reed's seal of approval, with a rendition of 'Perfect Day' set to appear on the album. Also due for inclusion is a cover of Leonard Cohen's classic song 'Hallelujah'.

A previous 'X Factor' favourite, Leonard Cohen himself recently admitted that he feels the song has been covered too often. Who are we to argue?

In a statement, Susan Boyle explained that the album is tailored for the festive season. "I wanted there to be a mix of songs that would flow with all our moods this holiday season" she said.

'Perfect Day' of course is widely interpreted as being about scoring heroin. Merry Christmas everyone!
