Brooklyn space cadets MGMT have explained that their record label are refusing to grant them total freedom on their new album.
MGMT scored a global hit with their debut album 'Oracular Spectacular'. Spawning several hit singles, the Brooklyn duo managed to blend other-worldly psych with startlingly fresh electro-rock.
Returning with their second album 'Congratulations' fans could have been forgiven for expecting more of the same. However what they received was a bewildering project which split critics.
Rejected by the band as an art joke, 'Congratulations' is not the disaster it could have been. MGMT's songwriting still shines through, despite the obtuse arrangements and the outré influences.
Speaking to The Daily Record, the band explained that their record company have ensured that their next effort will be more streamlined. "We have some ideas and have been talking about possible directions of where to go next," frontman Andrew Van-Wyngarden said.
"We are just in much more positive mental states than when we wrote 'Congratulations'. We're less anxious."
Continuing, the frontman confirmed that MGMT's record label will be "more involved" with their new album. "We've been looking at relationships with the label during the recording process and it's quite different this time. They'll be more involved and not give us as much freedom."
Meanwhile, MGMT are planning to finish the year with a full scale British tour. The Brooklyn group are shooting off around the country right now, with the dates set to finish with three nights in London.
Taking control of the Brixton Academy, MGMT will invite some special guests along for the party.
MGMT are due to play the following shows:
September
29 London O2 Academy Brixton
30 London O2 Academy Brixton
October
1 London O2 Academy Brixton
