Michael Jackson's iconic 'Thriller' video could be turned into a full length movie.
Released in 1983, 'Thriller' became an instant hit. Driven by a propulsive synth-funk rhythm, Michael Jackson intoned a spooky tale of Halloween goings on. However it was the track's video which sealed its notoriety.
The singer had become entranced with 'An American Werewolf In London' and asked special effects artist John Landis to take control of the shoot. What emerged changed the way the pop video was viewed forever.
Lasting fourteen minutes, the mini-epic is widely considered to be the greatest pop video of all time. Now the story of two young lovers could be set to reach the silver screen, with reports claiming a full length version is due.
American film magazine Deadline reports that the film version could focus on the character played by horror legend Vincent Price. Giving the video's its famous narrative style, Price intones the story over Jackson's epic 80s classic.
'High School Musical' director Kenny Ortega could be set to take control of the project, fresh from working on another recent Michael Jackson project. Ortega directed 'This Is It' which documented Jackson's ill fated comeback tour.
Elsewhere, writer Jeremy Garelick is involved in the screenplay while 'Thriller' songwriter Rod Temperton is also involved.
Amongst the studios battling it out for the right to take 'Thriller' to the silver screen are Lionsgate, 20th Century Fox and Summit - the makers of the Twilight series.
Meanwhile, a study by Forbes has found that Michael Jackson was the highest earning dead celebrity in 2010. A deal with Sony, DVD releases and his continuing high profile meant that the King Of Pop's estate gathered more than $200 million.
