The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart are set to release their new single 'Heart In The Heartbreak' on December 6th.
If the current wave of shoegaze groups from the United States are to have any impact on the mainstream then The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart could well be the band to do it. Sugar coated melodies, gently strummed guitars and vocals to die for turned their debut album into a cult success.
Perhaps the most pop orientated of the Brooklyn scene, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart are currently working on their second album. The band have been recording for the bulk of the year, but are due to break cover with a new single.
Available on dependable independent Fortuna Pop! the forthcoming track is intended as a standalone single. 'Heart In The Heartbreak' is another step forward for the band, with The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart maturing into a wonderful pop act.
A bit like Ride if they had focussed more on classic 60s pop, 'Heart In The Heartbreak' has all the hallmarks of a classic single. A richer, fuller track than their debut, the song doesn't outstay its welcome.
Recorded with one time My Bloody Valentine cohort Alan Moulder, the single has lyrics to sigh for: "every thought of the look in her eye/ like a cold California sky". Flipside 'The One' is dominated by swirling harmonies, displaying a swooning, lilting side to the group.
Due to be released on December 6th, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart are set to play a series of European tour dates this winter. Travelling through Germany, Spain and more the Brooklyn group will play just one British show.
Set to play 229 in London on December 2nd, tickets for the show are on sale now.
