Brian Wilson is preparing to take his new tribute to George Gershwin on the road.
Combining the talents of two renowned 20th century composers, Brian Wilson's new album saw the former Beach Boy tackle the material of George Gershwin.
Credited with some of the most recognisable melodies ever produced in the United States, Gershwin remains a hugely popular composer. An inspiration to Brian Wilson, the songwriter decided to tackle the composer's renowned output.
Releasing 'Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin' earlier this year, the American songwriter was rewarded with warm reviews. A typically lush affair, the album mixes classic material with unexpected arrangements.
Now Brian Wilson is set to take the album into the live arena. Previously, the one time Beach Boy has played a series of epochal concerts in the UK having taken 'Pet Sounds', 'Smile' and more on the road.
Currently rehearsing his band, Brian Wilson will unveil his reinterpretation of George Gershwin's material. Reflecting on the impact the composer had on his life, the former Beach Boy said:
"I remember hearing Rhapsody in Blue and I was probably four or five years old and I was blown away… I just couldn’t believe how beautiful it was.”
“Along with Irving Berlin, Gershwin basically invented the popular song, but he did something more. He had a gift for melody that nobody has ever equalled, yet his music is timeless and always accessible. This is the most spiritual project I've ever worked on."
Taking place in September 2011, Brian Wilson will perform in some lavish venues. Opening in Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, the tour will finish with a three night stint at London's Royal Festival Hall.
Tickets are on sale from November 12th. Brian Wilson has confirmed the following shows:
