Bristol based DJ October has released a free mix ahead of his upcoming appearance at Fabric.

Ah, Bristol. Dubstep may have erupted in the soundsystems of London, but the sound arguably found its spiritual home amongst the vast bass heritage of the West Country.

An early adopter of the sound, Bristol has spewed forth some of the scene's best producers from Pinch to Zomby. The city is small enough that everyone basically knows each other, allowing for a free flow of ideas.

Appleblim is one of the scene's most prominent producers, with his Apple Pips label presaging the current fad for 4x4 beats. Taking control of Fabric for a one off night, Apple Pips have scheduled some top names.

A relative newcomer, October has already cut some seminal tunes. The DJ is due to perform as part of Apple Pips takeover, and used the opportunity to reflect on just how vibrant Bristol's dance scene remains.

"We pretty much all know each other really well here in Bristol. I’ve known heads like Pinch and Peverelist, before dub-step was even a twinkle in their eyes" he told Fabric. "I clearly remember the day Pinch sent me an unfinished version of ‘Qwali’ - one of the finest examples of electronic music from Bristol. Can’t forget to mention Will Gatekeeper, another amazing producer."

"Im doing a few collaborations too with Kowton, Chris ‘Idle Hands’ Farrel, Borai and my label partner, James Fiddian but there are so many more DJ’s in Bristol that really deserve massive credit for molding the scene into what it’s becoming today" he insisted.

"Richard Carnage, under_score, The Kelly Twins and the whole Cuisine crew really need to be mentioned too as they have been the backbone of the scene for years and they don’t get the cred as they deserve."

In preparation for the show, October has crafted a free mix for fans to download. Packed full of classics, re-edits and more you can grab it after the jump...
