The Boxer Rebellion are set to release their new album 'The Cold Still' on February 7th.
Everyone loves an underdog. Parting ways with a major label, The Boxer Rebellion decided to go it alone. Forming their own label, the band released 'Union' in 2009 which became a stunning word of mouth success.
Digital sales pushed the album into the charts, at one point running second only to Kings Of Leon's all conquering 'Only By The Night'. Lack of a physical release meant that The Boxer Rebellion never made the official charts, keeping their success as a secret for those in the know.
Along the way the band enjoyed some remarkable recognition. Chosen to soundtrack the new Drew Barrymore film 'Going The Distance' the London based group actually appeared in the movie.
Making plans to record their third album, The Boxer Rebellion caught the attention of producer Ethan Johns. Making a formidable partnership, the band completed work on the much anticipated album earlier this year.
"Ethan had been our dream producer for years, so when we were asked to make a list of people to produce the third album my list consisted of one name,” says guitarist Todd Howe. “We didn’t want anyone else and, luckily for us, he was in from the first demo. We were looking for a more natural and evolved sound and we knew Ethan would get it right.”
Continuing, singer Nathan Nicholson added: Working with Ethan was a magical experience. We essentially produced Union ourselves, so handing over the reigns to someone whose work we respect so much was a really big move for us."
"Ethan started by setting us up in a circle facing each other - we had never played facing each other, ever. We recorded to tape and it was basically just press play and go. He really brought a new way of working to our creative process and it’s helped us make what we feel is our best record yet.”
The Boxer Rebellion are due to release 'The Cold Still' on February 7th.
