Independent London venue The Luminaire is set to shut its doors for the final time.
The spiralling cost of renting space in London is having a drastic effect on the city's live music scene. Venues across the capital are facing rising expenditure, with some being forced to close their doors.
The 100 Club is facing closure, while several other venues have shut down over the past twelve months. Now the Luminaire has confirmed that it will close after a New Year's party on December 31st.
A short statement from the independent venue heralded the end:

It is with sadness that we have to announce the closure of The Luminaire and The King's Head on 31st December. It's been a labour of love for a while now, and at this point it makes no sense for us to continue. We hope to be able to do some final farewell shows, probably in late March, and we'll let you know about those through the usual channels.
To all those who supported this independent venue, and the great artists who played here, since we opened back on 1st March 2005; you have our grateful thanks.
We were nothing without you.
Andy, John and all at The Luminaire

ClashMusic has close ties with The Luminaire. The venue housed the initial Clash Club events, which saw the magazine establish itself in London after moving from its initial base in Scotland.
Becoming close friends with the staff, we would like to wish them all the best and hope that the building can remain as a venue in some capacity.
