The Death Set are set to return with their new album 'Michel Poiccard' early next year.

Formed by two Australian ex-pats, The Death Set always gave off the impression that it was them vs the world. Live, the band brought audience participation to new levels, breaking down the barrier between the crowd and the musicians.

Beau Velasco and Johnny Siera were based in Baltimore, and seemed to be inspired by the city's unique music scene. The Death Set released their debut album in 2008, a pounding mixture of hardcore riffs and relentless electronics.

However last year the band were dealt a terrible blow. Just as the duo were set to reconvene to work on new material, Velasco, who had struggled with drug addiction on and off throughout his life, died of an overdose.

Absolutely shattered by the loss of his friend, Johnny Siera took time away from music. At the behest of a number of close friends, Siera joined up with long time band members Daniel Walker and Jahphet Landis to complete an unusual new album.

Partially based on tracks The Death Set recorded before Velasco's overdose, the band's second album is an unusual tribute to the musician. 'Michel Poiccard' adds to the punk ferocity of their debut, but contains a hefty emotional punch.

Producer XXXchange helped bring the sessions together, with 'Michel Poiccard' containing a number of tributes to their friend. 'I Miss You Beau Velasco' is a straight forward lament, a touching moment on a frequently moving album.

However The Death Set have lost none of their visceral thrill. Releasing a free download, 'Yo David Chase! You P.O.V. Shot Me In The Head (feat. Diplo)' is available from their official site right now.

The Death Set are set to release 'Michel Poiccard' on February 28th.
