Paul McCartney has broken venue records as his forthcoming Christmas shows sell out almost instantly.

More than fifty years into his musical career and Paul McCartney is still challenging himself. Going back out on the road, the former Beatle played some of his biggest British shows to date.

Planning to play New York's iconic Apollo venue for the first time later this month, Paul McCartney will then return to the UK for some festive shows.

Announcing two full band live dates, Paul McCartney has downscaled. Relatively intimate by his standards, the shows take place at the HMV Apollo in Hammersmith and a hometown performance at Liverpool's O2 Academy.

Tickets for the shows went on sale yesterday morning (December 8th) with huge demand from fans. As a result, all tickets sold out within minutes of going on sale, breaking box office records.

For both venues, the Paul McCartney show is now the fastest selling show in their history. Taking place on December 18th and 20th, the dates are a special occasion for an artist who has soundtracked the festive period for decades.

Paul McCartney scored three Christmas number ones in a row with The Beatles, while his solo career has brought festive hits such as 'Mull Of Kintyre' and of course 'Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time'.

Recently touring South America, 2010 has seen Paul McCartney receive acclaim from the highest sources with President Barack Obama awarding the singer with the prestigious Gershwin Prize For Popular Song.

All upcoming dates are completely sold out.

Paul McCartney will play the following shows:

December
18 London HMV Apollo Hammersmith
20 Liverpool O2 Academy
