The Strokes have sent fans an image on Twitter which they have claimed is their new album cover.

Here's a sobering thought... it is now almost ten years since the release of 'Is This It?'. In one fell swoop The Strokes influenced a decade of guitar music, launching a million pairs of Converse in the process.

Taking time off, the band have allowed a five year break to grow between albums. The Strokes are close to completing their long awaited fourth album, and have enjoyed teasing desperate fans pushed to breaking point.

The latest 'revelation' about the upcoming album has come from Julian Casablancas. In a Twitter message the frontman published a bizarre new image which he claimed would be the band's new album cover.

Seemingly a mural somewhere in the United States, the image shows a toy train, a clown and a basketball player.

It probably won't be the official album cover due to the following reasons:

- It's the wrong shape (rectangular, not square)
- It is in a poor resolution
- It's not very good

Greeted with good humour by Strokes fans, the image has nonetheless caused a stir on the Internet. At the time of writing the posting has been viewed an astonishing 48,000 times despite being live for less than a day.

The frontman is known for posting unusual images to Twitter. At Halloween Julian Casablancas spent hours working on a Jack O'Lantern, shaping a pumpkin to resemble the Death Star.

The result? Pretty impressive. Check it out HERE.

The Strokes are set to release their new album later this year.
