The Big Pink Turn To Hip Hop

The Big Pink are working on their second album, teasing fans with a possible hip hop influence.

Formed by two outcasts from the noise scene, The Big Pink began as an attempt to re-claim a classic songwriting template. Debut album 'A Brief History Of Love' was recorded in New York, using the Jimi Hendrix built Electric Ladyland studio.

Live, The Big Pink mix anthemic songwriting with all out noise. Recently taking time off their punishing tour schedule, the pair have begun working on new material with some unusual influences.

Speaking to the NME, songwriter Milo Cordell explained that The Big Pink have embraced hip hop. However while some bands pay lip service to this, the duo plan on going all the way on their second album.

"A lot of white, middle class bands say, ‘We’re going to make a hip-hop record’, but we’re actually going to do it," he said.

The Big Pink have previously name-checked Eminem and Dr Dre as being a massive influence, and now aim to demonstrate that on their second album. "In the same way that Massive Attack or Tricky or Portishead are hip-hop in their own way," Cordell added.

So a trip hop record? Could be...

Award winning producer Paul Epworth is set to take control of the album, with sessions just under way.

However don't go expecting a straight forward rap album. The Big Pink curated a 'Tapes' compilation for !k7 Records last year, focussing on abrasive lo-fi electronic and paying lip service to Witch House.
