The Big Issue have launched plans for their first ever Big Sleep Out later this year in London.

With the economy in tatters, homelessness is again on the rise in the UK. Across the country, people are being forced to sleep rough, getting by on very little and enduring all the ferocity of a British winter.

Currently, the life expectancy for a homeless person is just 42 years old with many facing daily harassment and violence. Established over twenty years ago, The Big Issue has helped countless thousands get off the streets.

Allowing vendors to work their way off the streets, The Big Issue provides support for those who need it. Now the magazine is set to hold an inventive fund raising event in London later this year.

Taking place in Old Spitalfields Market on March 18th, The Big Issue will lead 250 people in an all night event.

Mixing entertainment, education and more The Big Sleep Out aims to inspire people to become involved in the charity. The event will allow people to hear directly from the people they are supporting, testifying to the importance of The Big Issue.

This is not an attempt to mimic the life of a homeless person. Rather, The Big Issue use the event as a launching pad, allowing people to fill the night with entertainment as they see fit.

Vendors will take part in discussions, while an awards ceremony will bring attention to the work The Big Issue is engaged in. Elsewhere people can expect stand up comedy, a special debate and a free breakfast cooked by John Torode's restaurant The LUXE.
