The Black Keys have been forced to cancel a host of tour dates in an effort to take time off.

Returning with their new album 'Brothers', The Black Keys have enjoyed massive success. After a decade on the sidelines, it seems that the mainstream has finally warmed to their brand of dirty blues rock.

'Brothers' reached the upper echelons of the Billboard chart, and was recently nominated for two Grammy awards. Black Keys have been invited to play all over the world, spending the bulk of 2010 on the road.

Arranging a tour of Australia and New Zealand for this Spring, the duo were facing a large backlog of shows. With mounting pressures, Black Keys have decided to take time off in order to recuperate.

Issuing a short statement, Black Keys admitted to being "drained" and apologised to fans for the cancelled shows.

"The Black Keys are sorry to announce the cancellation of the New Zealand and Australian tour including all appearances at the Big Day Out touring festival as well as a portion of the European tour in March".

"An arduous year of touring and promotion has drained the band and necessitated time off. Dan and Patrick wish to thank all of you who have shown such incredible support since the release of Brothers and have helped make the album a success."

The duo were set to play a full tour of Australia and New Zealand, including appearances at the Big Day Out event. The dates are set to be re-arranged for later in the year, although obviously Big Day Out will not be re-scheduled.
