Cold War Kids have spoken to ClashMusic about their newly released album 'Mine Is Yours'.
Returning with their new album 'Mine Is Yours' Cold War Kids knew they had it all to prove. The band's second album 'Loyalty To Loyalty' was passionate but confused, prompting a period of introspection in the band.
Writing new material last year, Cold War Kids are set to open 2011 with what may well be their most impressive studio offering yet.
'Mine Is Yours' has received warm reviews, with Cold War Kids seeming to re-capture the youthful energy of their debut. Add to this a more mature songwriting outlook and the band have something they truly believe in.
“I stand by this album one hundred percent - maybe I’ve never totally felt that way before,” states singer Nathan Willet. “Honestly, this is the first album where I do have expectations and I would be surprised and disappointed if the record didn’t do well and open doors for us. Being able to tour in Asia, play bigger venues, or record a song with someone like Elvis Costello, is the sort of thing I expect with this album.”
Continuing, the frontman explained that the new album arose out of a distinct need for change within the band. "Our second album was a wake-up call for us. The emphasis had been on recording live and quickly, but on finishing (2008’s) ‘Loyalty (To Loyalty)’ I was sad because we had these songs that were not fully realised - we needed to change.”
