Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke has confirmed that he has begun writing a book.
Going on hiatus in 2009, Bloc Party decided to take their first lengthy break in almost five years. Since releasing their debut album, the band had thrown themselves into the tour-record routine.
Deciding to have a rest, singer Kele Okereke soon found himself back in the studio. Locked in a room with a collection of antique synths, the musician discovered a different way to approach songwriting.
Released last year, 'The Boxer' could be Kele Okereke's last musical statement for some time. In a new interview with the NME the singer explained that he intended to spend this year finishing off a new book.
The singer intends to move out to New York in order to complete the project. "I'm moving to Manhattan in the next couple of weeks," he said. "I'm writing a book and I want to go somewhere and finish it."
Continuing, the frontman revealed that Bloc Party are still in contact with one another. "We (Bloc Party) had a meeting before Christmas, but I'm just focused on the book at the moment. I'm not thinking about anything like that right now."
Recently entering the studio with Hercules & Love Affair, Kele Okereke seems keen to take a break from music.
Bloc Party have been on hiatus since 2009. Kele Okereke is not the only member to embark on a new project, with guitarist Russell Lissack releasing an album of electro-rock before joining Ash.
The Northern Irish band's new touring guitarist, it seems Russell Lissack could not escape the lure of the road.
There is no publication date for Kele Okereke's book.
