Brooklyn trio Vivian Girls are set to release their new album 'Share The Joy' on April 11th.
Part of a wave of female fronted American indie outfits, Vivian Girls always stood out. Perhaps it was the sheer chemistry of the trio, or even their sweet, self-deprecating sense of humour. Whatever the reason, the band stick out amongst an increasingly narrow vein of girl group thrash.
Always aiming to keep ahead of the pack, Vivian Girls spent part of last year working on side projects. Launching the group La Sera, the trio are now back together and close to releasing new material.
New album 'Share The Joy' is due to be released on April 11th. Vivian Girls are lynch pins of the Brooklyn scene, with the studio sessions featuring some old friends. The record was laid down at Rear House, the home studio run by Jarvis Taveniere of the Brooklyn folk collective Woods, who was also tasked with engineering the album.
Sharpening their songcraft, 'Share The Joy' is a typically sweet and sour mixture. Joyous girl group melodies are matched with feedback laden guitars, and lyrics that often hint at someting darker.
Containing ten tracks, the new album is a compact affair. "It's cleaner and more hi-fi than the previous records," singer Cassie Ramone says of the new album. "The sound is more open, more free. I think that this album really shows our strengths as musicians, and shows us melding together musically."
"It's more psychedelic and less shoegaze. There's also a lot of organ on it, which is new for us."
Taken from the new album, teaser track 'I Heard You Say' is a wonderful introduction to their sound. Available to download for free, grab your copy HERE.
