The Flaming Lips are preparing a new box set in time for this year's Record Store Day.
Record Store Day is fast becoming a replacement for Christmas in the eyes of music fans too old to appreciate Santa Claus. Last year saw the event become an international phenomenon, hitting the UK with a vengeance.
Scores of peoples began queuing outside major shops such as Rough Trade before the doors had even swung open. With some extremely limited edition releases planned, this year could well spark the same scenes.
The Flaming Lips are noted supporters of the event, and have prepared a new vinyl box set. Record Store Day is set to swing round once more, with Wayne Coyne & Co. preparing a lavish collection.
'Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records 1992 - 2002' collects the band's first five albums on Warner Brothers, and amounts to a neat overview of how a bunch of bedraggled psychedelic heads from Oklahoma managed to secure widespread acclaim.
Moving from full on freak out fare to something rather more refined, 'Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records 1992 - 2002' will be available in two batches. All five records will be pressed on high quality 140-gram vinyl, while a 'Special Limited Edition' will be available with the records pressed in different colours.
A statement from The Flaming Lips warned fans to be quick: "once they are gone, they are GONE, so don't delay; these will sell out."
The forthcoming box set contains 'The Soft Bulletin,' 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots,' 'Hit to Death in the Future Head,' 'Transmissions From the Satellite Heart' and 'Clouds Taste Metallic'. The only one missing? 1997's freak out 'Zaireeka' which was pressed onto four separate discs.
The Flaming Lips are set to release 'Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records 1992 - 2002' on April 16th.
