Experimental electronica producer Prefuse 73 is set to release his new album on April 25th.
Real name Guillermo Scott Herren, Prefuse 73 has spent the best part of a decade on the fringes. Breaking down the walls between hip hop, glitchy electronics and avant rock his output spans all three.
Moving effortlessly between genres the producer rarely looks back. Recent collaborations have included work with Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never) while remix work has included TV On The Radio, Ghostface Killah and more.
Now Prefuse 73 is ready to drop his new album. Recently working with the Ausko Orchestra in Poland, this experiment in classical music has infused the producer's new work with a new sense of ambition.
'The Only She Chapters' are due to be released on April 25th. Containing some typically other worldly electronics, the album includes a number of collaborators.
Guest vocals are supplied by Zola Jesus, Shara Worden and more. Poignantly, the late Broadcast singer Trish Keenan appears, recording a vocal part shortly before her tragic death in January.
Guesting on a track called 'The Only Trial of 9000' suns, Trish Keenan is one of a number of female vocalists invited to take part.
The idea of the album-as-female symbol has extended to collaborators on the visual front, enlisting illustrator Yuko Michishita and photographer Angel Ceballos. The producer explains: “This record is a weird one for me. The process features all women vocalists and voices and the music was recorded very differently from how I normally work."
"This can be seen as a departure from other albums but it's not a departure intended to leave people feeling alienated or baffled. It's just a different way to interpret my music and it's an open invitation for anyone that wants to listen.”
