Japanese artist Yoko Ono has been named as a featured speaker at this year's SXSW.

A truly enormous event, SXSW now features more than just music. The festival has expanded into film, with the Texan showcase also home to a number of guest speakers discussing their career.

In the past, featured speakers have included Mick Jones from The Clash, Lou Reed and Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker. This year, SXSW is set to invite Japanese artist Yoko Ono to lecture at the event.

Yoko Ono was already a highly regarded experimental artist before she met John Lennon. Encouraged to move into music, the singer's vocal techniques and free jazz influenced songwriting pushes back boundaries.

Collaborating with her husband, the two remained inseparable until his death. Last year, Yoko Ono led a number of memorial services in honour of John Lennon, commemorating the 40th anniversary of his death.

Now Yoko Ono is set to reflect on her lengthy career. The Japanese artist is due to speak at SXSW, with the event taking place on March 18th. In addition to the lecture, the singer will answer questions on her career, art and marriage to John Lennon.

Alongside this, the singer is due to play a concert at the event. Taking place on March 19th, Yoko Ono will mix new material with some of the better known elements of her back catalogue.

Confirmed on her Twitter page, the announcement was placed between some typical Yoko Ono words of wisdom: "Change is inevitable. And it's up to us to make it a good change."

Working is already underway on the festival, with British newcomers such as Yuck, The Vaccines and more set to make the journey.

SXSW runs between March 15th - 20th.
