The Cribs have claimed that work on their fifth album is to begin later this summer.

Expanding to a four piece, The Cribs released their fourth album 'Ignore The Ignorant' back in 2009. Their most commercially successful album to date, it benefited from the glistening chords of Johnny Marr.

Since then, the band have toured widely including some notable festival slots. Going on a break, The Cribs announced last week that they were set to appear at Scotland's RockNess festival.

Sparking rumours of possible new material, the band took to their Twitter feed to keep fans informed. “Despite being on a break, The Cribs are not superhuman and still have to eat, therefore they will be playing a handful of summer festival shows,” said the band.

Later, The Cribs revealed that new material was a possibility. "The first show to be announced this Summer is RockNess Festival in Scotland where The Cribs headline the tent on Saturday night before heading into the studio to work on their 5th album."

Currently, the band are spread between Manchester, Wakefield and the United States. Work on new material is always difficult, with The Cribs set to re-unite later this year in order to begin recording their fifth album.

The Twitter announcement has caused a stir with fans, used to rather different announcements. Recently, guitarist Johnny Marr used the social networking tool to demand David Cameron stop telling people he is a fan of The Smiths.

Later, Ryan Jarman and Professor Green fell out across Twitter with Kate Nash - Jarman's wife - the centre of the disagreement.

However Ryan Jarman seems to have recovered from the disagreement, with The Cribs singer indulging in a bit of rock nostalgia. "Found all my old Queen memorabilia at my mums house from when I was a young kid" he said. "Tonight is going to rock."
