Former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher has written off England's chances of progressing from the group stages at this year's World Cup.
Poor old England. After cruising through the qualifying stages the team seem to have wilted in the intense atmosphere of the World Cup. Two heartless draws have left them with a mountain to climb, needing to beat Slovenia in their final game to progress.
The vultures have begun circling above the England camp, with critics lining up to poke holes in the tactics of Fabio Capello. Noel Gallagher is an outspoken football fan, and the former Oasis guitarist does not believe that England have what it takes to progress.
Speaking to James Corden on the comedian's World Cup Live chat show, the guitarist claimed that it could be curtains for England's dream.
"If they couldn't beat Algeria tonight I can't see them beating Slovenia" he reasoned. "Slovenia are going to need to draw that game to go through, so they've got something to play for, it's all over."
Noel Gallagher seemed particularly bemused by the change in perception of Fabio Capello. "Before tonight everyone really respected him. But he's kind of turned into some kind of silly wizard" he claimed.
Oasis were closely linked to football, with the Gallagher's love of Manchester City well known. Continuing, Noel Gallagher explained that England's loss in the 2002 World Cup helped to boost the 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' single.
"We knew when it was picked as a single it would be released at the time of the (2002) World Cup," he explained. "We thought 'We (England) are bound to get knocked out to this' - 'Kerching' I said."
It's been a miserable campaign for Noel Gallagher this time round, however, with close friend Allesandro Del Piero's Italy team also struggling in the group stages.
