Muse have begun planning recording sessions for their forthcoming sixth studio album.

Released in 2009, 'The Resistance' pushed Muse to ever greater heights. A bombastic return, it's mixture of science fiction, prog, Queen and searing guitar effects were rewarded with massive commercial success.

Spawning an enormous world tour, Muse made massive in-roads in the Stateside market. With the dates now drawing to a close, the trio have begun forming plans to record the follow up to 'The Resistance'.

Returning to London, the trio plan to begin initial sessions later this year. Speaking to BBC 6Music, bass player Chris Wolstenholme explained that the band are set to re-unite in London later this year.

"We’re all moving to London soon, which will be the first time we’ve all lived in the same place for about 12 years" he explained.

Meanwhile, singer Matt Bellamy was looking forward to getting started on the new album. "We've never made a full album in London, we’ve just done a few bits, so it’ll be great to do it there. It also means we can do it over a longer period as we'll be based there."

Continuing, the frontman looked forward to rather more relaxed recording sessions that the band may be used to. "We've actually never made a full album here, it'll be nice to all be based in the same place, we can go out and socialise," Matt Bellamy explained.

"It also means we can make the album over a longer period of time without having to pressurise it into a three week studio session."

As for a potential release date, Matt Bellamy refused to be drawn on when the album will come out. "I'd like 2012 if possible but 2013 definitely" he claimed.

Recently the band scooped at trophy at the Grammy awards, before being named one of Britain's best selling musical exports over the past year. The winner? Susan Boyle. Can't win 'em all...
