Electronic guru Four Tet is set to cross swords with dubstep pioneer Mala on a new 12 inch.

Real name Kieran Hebden, Four Tet has gradually been moving in a bass direction since he accepted an invite to hold a residency at Plastic People. The London club is one of dubstep's most fertile centres, and the move opened the producer up to all kinds of bass innovations.

Since then, Four Tet's production style has definitely shifted. On his new album the producer wrote a track called 'Plastic People' in honour of the club.

A split 12 inch with Burial in 2008 has been followed by a number of plates in which the likes of Roska and Joy Orbison have got to grips with his material. Now the producer is set to cross swords with one of dubtep's founding fathers - Mala.

As one half of Digital Mystikz, Mala was arguably at the centre of the movement to drag dark garage out into the open. Via a series of seminal cuts the duo forged the template for dubstep, mixing half-step rhythms with seismic bass.

Recently remixing Grace Jones for 'Record Store Day' the duo also hold down spots at their own dubstep night DMZ. Regularly cited as one of the best around, the club has helped foster new talent since its inception.

Now Four Tet and Mala have confirmed a new 12 inch to be released through Soul Jazz. The London shop turned label has a close association with dubstep, and will now handle the split disc.

Four Tet's cut is titled ‘Nothing to See’ while and Mala’s is called ‘Don’t Let Me Go’. Due out at the end of July, you can listen to clips of both tracks below (via FACT).
