Cardiff twee-pop collective Los Campesinos! have lost their drummer Ollie, who has quit.
Formed at university, Los Campesinos! put those post-degree careers on hold to follow their musical vision. Released two and a bit albums, the band have established themselves at the vanguard of British indie.
Live, the band lose their twee pretensions and actually rock out - albeit in a deeply un-macho sense. Part of this live charm is the exuberant drumming of Ollie Campesinos! who has decided to leave the band.
The move comes as Los Campesinos! are adjusting to another line up change. The Cardiff based band lost keyboard player Aleks Campesinos! last year, who was replaced by Kim Campesinos! in a football transfer style video filmed at the Millennium stadium.
Ollie Campesinos! broke the news to fans in a message on the band's official website. "It is with very sad regret that I have to announce that I, Ollie Campesinos!, have parted company with Los Campesinos!," he wrote.
"When we first started this band we never expected in a million years that three years down the line we would have done and achieved all the things that we have. It’s been an amazing experience and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world."
It does seem as if the band remain on good terms, with the drummer continuing: "I want to thank everyone that we have ever worked with. Without your hard work we wouldn’t have done all these things. Thank you to every band I have ever had the privilege of playing with. I have made some really great friends."
Finishing, Ollie Campesinos! paid tribute to the band's fans. "But most importantly I want to thank every one of you that has ever taken any time to take interest in us. Whether it’s coming to a gig, buying a record or merely reading my food reviews. If it weren’t for you guys and gals we would have faded out a long time ago."
Los Campesinos! have yet to comment on the news.
