Metal icons Slipknot have refused to be drawn on their future, leading to rumours that they could split.

Slipknot are one of the biggest names in metal. With their uncompromising sound and extreme masks, the band have attracted millions of fans across the globe who they politely refer to as "maggots".

Currently working on side projects, the band were dealt a tragic blow when bass player Paul Gray was found slumped in his hotel room. The musician could not be revived, with an autopsy confirming that he died of a drugs overdose.

The band held a press conference to pay their respects to the bass player, who helped form the group back in the mid 90s.

Now in a new interview Jim Root has admitted that Slipknot are not contemplating their future right now. Speaking to Sonisphere Festival, the guitarist admitted that it was "the furthest thing from our mind".

"There's going to be a big healing process that needs to happen before we even think about whether or not Slipknot will continue," he said. "And right now that's the furthest thing from our mind."

Continuing, the guitarist explained that Slipknot could take "two years at least" to piece themselves back together. "Right now we are just grieving or trying to find time to grieve anyway for the fact that our bro's gone".

"It's weird because some days I don't even think it's real, so that one's not going to make sense for a while."

Meanwhile, frontman Corey Taylor is gearing up to release a new album with his Stone Sour outfit. Joined by various members of Slipknot the group will unleash 'Audio Secrecy' on September 6th.
