Gang Of Four have announced the release date for their new album, 'Content', and its first single 'Who Am I?'.
'Content' will be released on October 4th on Groenland Deutschland GmbH on CD, vinyl and the 'Ultimate Concert Can' which features the album, photos, ceramic tiles and vials of the band member's blood amongst other items.
The first single from the album will be 'Who Am I?', released on September 13th 2010.
Speaking about the new album, the band's Jon King and Andy Gill say: “At their best, pop songs promise nothing in particular (think Kylie’s Can’t Get You Out Of My Head or Funkadelic’s One Nation Under A Groove) but gift us oblivion, a kind of truth and a beautiful emptiness. There’s always room for this, but it shouldn’t be everything. So many songwriters choose to write about love or getting laid or getting down on the dance floor. Great subjects, but there’s so much more...
“The tracks on Content are simple: vocals, guitar, bass, drums. It is a tough, loud sound. We write about situations in daily life, but these are situations where the point of view is often contradictory or conflicted. Sometimes it’s a drama or dialogue, sometimes it's an imagined situation with contradictory voices or commentary (like He’d Send In The Army or, on the new album, Do As I Say, in which there’s a quasi conversation between a religious inquisitor and someone burning at the stake, where they both agree they’re two sides of the same coin).
What we strive for in all of our songs, is to interpret the world in a way you haven’t seen nor thought of before. We think you'll hear this in Content.”
