
Canadian Indie band Arcade Fire have pledged to donate up to $1 million Canadian dollars to the rebuilding of Haiti, matching any donations made by the public to the KANPE charity.
The band have thrown their weight behind the cause before, band co-leader Régine Chassagne's parents emigrated to Canada from Haiti making it a particularly heartfelt gesture. Chassagne is involved with the KANPE charity, standing on their board of directors.
Haiti was stuck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in January this year, devastating the capital city, Port-au-Prince, and killing an estimated 200,000 people. Six months on the survivors are still living in tents and scraping by despite international aid appeals.
