The Social Network Film

Initially there was a distinct underwhelmed response to the announcement that there was going to be a Facebook movie. A film about geek boys creating a website, how interesting or dramatic could it be? News that David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club) was directing created the first pique of interest. Add to the mix the screenwriting talents of Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) and a clever text based teaser trailer and suddenly it seems like a proposition after all.

The latest trailer to be released for ‘The Social Network’ is a more traditional affair, which looks both interesting and dramatic; tales of skulduggery, legal battles and the destruction of a friendship with the tagline ‘you don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies’. It features an ensemble cast including Justin Timberlake, Jesse Eisenberg, Brenda Song, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones, Max Minghella, Rooney Mara, and Joseph Mazzello. Earlier this month it was announced that Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (NIN producer) would score the film. Reznor took a bit of persuasion.

“I’ve always loved David’s work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. Atticus Ross and I have been on a creative roll so I asked him if he wanted to work on this with me and we signed on”. He went on to add that the film is “really fucking good. And dark!”.

Set for an October 1st release in the States, a UK release date has yet to be announced.
