Returning indie kingpins The Libertines will play a one off show in London next month.
It was inevitable, really. When The Libertines shattered into a million pieces back in 2004 fans speculated over a possible re-union. Given the bond between Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, it was widely anticipated that Biggles and Bilo would get back together.
So although it has taken six years, the Libertines reunion shouldn't take us by surprise. Announced as the shock headliners for this year's Reading and Leeds the band's resurgence is yet another twist in a familiar tale.
Messrs Doherty & Barat have agreed to let bygones be bygones, reforming for a massive summer show. Now it seems that The Libertines have another trick up their sleeves, with a special warm up date being announced.
Afraid to come out of retirement and fling themselves into festival babylon The Libertines have confirmed a warm up show. The one off date will take place at London's Forum venue next month, with exact details kept under wraps.
Speaking to the BBC Carl Barat explained that the group have set aside time for rehearsals, but warned that everything has been done "a bit last minute".
"We've got a bit of time blocked out. As I say it's a bit last minute – it always is" he said. Of course we'll be able to do it and we'll be able to do it with aplomb."
The show will take place in London's HMV Forum venue in the run up to Reading and Leeds. The Libertines are familiar with the venue, having played some of their most memorable shows there.
In fact, footage from a previous show was used in the video to the band's hit single 'Can't Stand Me Now'.
The Libertines aren't the only massive act due to descend on Reading and Leeds. Organisers have secured performances from rock icons Guns N Roses, while Canadian indie giants Arcade Fire are also set to appear.
Reading and Leeds takes place between August 27th - 29th.
