Northern Irish punk-pop survivors Ash are set to appear at the inaugural instalment of Headstock.
Headstock is a festival with a difference. Taking control of a small town, the event aims to put on a great party which will be of benefit to an area still struggling to emerge from the shadow of the miner's strike.
Headstock is set in Newstead and Annesley Country Park, an area just North of Nottingham. When the miner's strike broke out in 1984 the area was devastated, with families driven deep into debt as the industrial dispute wore on.
Over the following two decades the area was emptied of opportunity, as pit after pit closed. Now Headstock aims to put a smile on the face of locals, gathering together some top class acts at a cheap price.
Taking place on September 11th, tickets for the event are priced at just £20. Exceptional value, with Northern Irish trio Ash set to jet in from South Africa to perform.
Evergreen indie punks, Ash recently embarked on their A-Z project. A double album released a track at a time, the new material is being matched by a lengthy bout of touring. Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack has joined the band, adding rhythm guitar duties on the new tour.
Set to headline at Headstock, Ash will be joined by Sunderland indie dons Field Music. Returning earlier this year the reclusive songwriters crafted a spell binding double album which reverences freak-folk, prog and post-punk textures.
A stunning release, it somehow escaped the panel of the Mercury Music Prize. Oh well... Field Music are due to perform at Headstock, with other slots being filled by the likes of Edward II and Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
With a dance arena, a kid's field and plenty of food and drink Headstock is a family centred event with plenty of surprises.
