Swedish indie group The Concretes have confirmed details of their new album 'WYWH'.
The Concretes managed to precede, inspire and dominate the current boom in indie pop centring on Scandinavia. With original singer Victoria Bergsman the band found acclaim far beyond the shores of Sweden.
2006's 'In Colour' was an enormous critical success, buoyed by Bergsman's sensuous vocals. Departing soon afterwards, the Scandinavian band have struggled to push their way back into top gear.
Releasing 'Hey Trouble' in 2007 The Concretes took time off. Earlier this year the band uploaded a new track onto their Bandcamp page, which they claim was taken from a brand new album.
'WYWH' was set to be released in October, the band said, with more previews upcoming. Well, it's taken six months but the news has finally been confirmed with The Concretes signing to Something In Construction for the UK release.
According to the band themselves, 'WYWH' is inspired by retro disco action. Not quite sure how that applies itself to their trademark indie pop, but on the few tracks so far released The Concretes have definitely been using a lot of synths.
Due to be released on November 8th in the United States, the album contains plenty of intriguing song titles. 'I Wish We'd Never Met' inverts their usual love song motif, while 'Oh My Love' suggests that their could be a fair amount of heartbreak on show.
Meanwhile, Victoria Bergsman is taking a well earned rest after last year's album 'East Of Eden'. Recorded with a troupe of Pakistani musicians, it was the first under her Taken By Trees moniker.
The Concretes are due to release 'WYWH' on November 8th. Tracklisting:
