David Lynch has signed to Sunday Best and is preparing to unveil his new single.
Well this is a turn up for the books. A celebrated director and script writer, David Lynch has long been associated with music. From the theme to 'Twin Peaks' to the bizarre Americana of 'Blue Velvet' his output would be nothing without a musical touch.
However the director has now decided to release his own tracks. Apparently electronic, David Lynch has signed a deal with revered British independent Sunday Best to release his debut album.
As a special preview, two tracks are available to download from iTunes right now. 'Good Day Today' and 'I Know' are now available, with both featuring some 80s style production and catchy hooks.
Featuring the director himself on vocals, David Lynch let the tracks leak out organically. Indeed when the track was first aired by Jason Bentley, on his hugely influential KCRW radio station in Los Angeles, it was mistakenly credited to Underworld, causing a debate over the artist's identity to rage on the Underworld website and message boards.
'Good Day Today' is a bubbling piece of electro pop, while flipside 'I Know' is a slice of psychedelic whimsy.
Taken from his forthcoming full length album, David Lynch has made the tracks available from today (November 29th). The eventual album release will be a lavish affair, featuring artwork from Vaughan Oliver responsible for 4AD's golden era of art direction via releases from Pixies and Cocteau Twins.
Pre-orders for the album will open from David Lynch's website on November 29th, with the record available on the beautiful three panel gatefold vinyl and as a deluxe CD.
“I am very happy to be with Sunday Best with the songs 'Good Day Today' and 'I Know'. This feels like a good partnership and I’m looking forward to everyone having a good day today" said David Lynch. "In all my films, I have always been very involved with all that one hears. The creation of this record was a natural extension of my love of sound and music.”
David Lynch will release his debut album through Sunday Best next year.
