All Tomorrow's Parties boss Barry Hogan has spoken to ClashMusic about his ambitions for the festival.
Founded a decade ago, All Tomorrow's Parties has risen to become one of the most influential events in the UK. Held at the Butlins resort in Minehead, the festival mixes exclusive performances with a unique atmosphere.
Now expanding to take in events in the United States, Australia and even Japan All Tomorrow's Parties has moved beyond its founders wildest ambitions.
Speaking to ClashMusic, organiser Barry Hogan explained that he was concerned about keeping the events low key. Some argue that a one off event would be preferable to a large number of small festivals.
“I know people will say that we do lots of events but by doing that we don’t turn it into a 25,000 capacity event and lose the intimacy of it,” he said. “We want to keep it bespoke. We don’t have a VIP area and the fans and the bands are treated as equal-we tell everyone to leave their egos at the door.”
Over the years All Tomorrow's Parties has had a number of acclaimed acts become curators, with Hogan naming an unexpected favourite. “The Dirty Three. Funnily enough, it was the first time that Grinderman ever played in the UK" he explained. "All the stuff they picked was a crazy mix but it all worked really well and the atmosphere was fantastic."
However one person remains on the wish list. “We had Jim Jarmusch do one day for us out in the states and would be great to get him to do a whole weekend over here" the organiser explained. "We would love to get someone like Kraftwerk or Wes Anderson. Either of them would be amazing.”
