Pixies are set to finally bring their compilation 'Wave Of Mutilation' to vinyl with a new re-issue.
A truly seminal group, Pixies barely made an impact on the mainstream in their initial incarnation. However after their untimely split the band enjoyed a curious second life, becoming cult heroes.
For many fans, 'Wave Of Mutilation' was an entrance point for the world of Pixies. Initially released in 2004 the compilation has proved to have an enduring popularity, mixing classic tracks with rarities.
Ordered in more or less chronological order, 'Wave Of Mutilation' brings together album cuts, singles and rare B-sides. Opening with 'Bone Machine' the record moves through early highlights such as 'Hey' and 'Debaser'.
Focussing on their glorious early era, 'Wave Of Mutilation' also finds time to represent a few tracks from their unjustly ignored later incarnation. Only ever available on CD and as a download, the album will now receive a vinyl pressing.
4AD are to cut 'Wave Of Mutilation' into wax, with Pixies bringing the album to vinyl. Available as a double disc set, the first European pressing will be available on special edition orange vinyl.
Released in a gatefold sleeve, the album will be available on black vinyl for American fans. Meanwhile, Pixies are bringing their 'Doolittle' anniversary tour to an end. Begun as a means of celebrating the album, the dates saw the American band play the seminal album complete from start to finish.
Some sets were recorded for release, demonstrating that despite being an essentially retro exercise Pixies still hold a ferocious live power.
