German bass heavy techno duo Modeselektor have revealed that they are working on new material.

Melting together techno with bass frequencies, Modeselektor were perfectly placed for the dubstep movement. Adopted by bass heads and techno friends alike, the German duo are one of the most unique acts on the European dance scene.

Taking time out of recording new material, Modeselektor have focussed on their live show, the Monkeytown label and of course the Moderat project.

Speaking to Bloc recently, the duo explained that new material could be on the cards. Sebastian Szary revealed that the pair were constructing fresh songs, which would have some mystery collaborators.

"We are actually trying to be at the studio constantly these days. We’ve noticed that working as Moderat and together with Sascha (Apparat) has taken a great impact on how we work as Modeselektor now" he said.

"Not that our new stuff sounds like Moderat, more the way we deal with sounds and arrangements. The album is supposed to be released next summer – which is hard to imagine right now, having one of the coldest and hardest winters for a long time. But it was the same with Moderat when we produced that album. And there will be some collaborations…but no comment on this for now."

Elsewhere, the producer reflected on how Modeselektor have been received by the press. "For Moderat the funniest description was definitely ‘sadstep’ or ‘dubstep for crying’. For Modeselektor there were a couple of funny ones as well: ‘country ambient’ or just ‘hard rap’. It’s always funny how people misspell us too."

"We’ve seen Moonskeleton, Moeselecker, Mozerella, Sodemelektor. Or for Moderat there was Motorad, which means motorcycle in German."
