Sir Paul McCartney could be in line for perform at Prince William's wedding reception.

The Royal Wedding has assaulted the headlines in a manner few could have predicted. In the 21st century, many commentators would have predicted that the British public should be beyond such things.

However Royal-Mania is continuing unabated. Prince William and Kate Middleton are set to get married in the Spring, and if their plans come to fruition then Sir Paul McCartney could perform at their reception.

The singer has a track record of performing for royalty. In Britain, Sir Paul McCartney was one of the highlights of a televised public performance to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

Rushing through some old favourites, Sir Paul McCartney even dropped in a short rendition of 'Her Majesty'.

Now the former Beatle could be due to perform at Prince William's wedding. The Royal Couple will exchange vows at Westminster Abbey in a service that begins at 11AM. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams will oversee the ceremony which will be watched by millions across the globe.

According to The Daily Star Sir Paul McCartney was approached by the Royal Couple, with the pair selecting the former Beatle as the number one choice for their reception. McCartney has been approached to play several songs at the reception, none of which have been disclosed as yet. 'Give Ireland Back To The Irish'? Probably not.

Fresh from a lengthy world tour, Sir Paul McCartney breezed back into the UK last month with two festive shows.

The Royal Wedding takes place on April 29th.
