Gold Panda has spoken about the role family plays in his life after the success of 'Lucky Shiner'.
Released last year, 'Lucky Shiner' managed to move beyond the traditional audience for electronic music. Gold Panda won massive acclaim, with his debut album becoming a word of mouth hit.
Now an in-demand remixer, Gold Panda has been coaxed out of hiding for a number of live appearances. Speaking to The Quietus, though, the producer seemed bewildered both by his success and the stress of performing.
"There are people coming to the gigs now to see Gold Panda. I'm very wary of that and I'm very nervous. I feel like I should apologise for the show. But it's still early days and I haven't been doing it that long compared to other people" he explained.
"Well, I don't hate it, I'm just not a very confident person and it really affects me being away from home and not being able to make music, and having to perform. I just feel the pressure a lot for some reason. I'm still very unsure about this as a career."
Elsewhere, Gold Panda spoke about the influence of his family. 'Lucky Shiner' is actually named after his grandmother, who is apparently a fan of his electronic productions.
"My family is really close. I'm quite emo. I suffered from depression for ages and still get it really badly. When I'm not happy she just knows" he said.
"She'll make me a cup of tea and sit down and it won't be a really long chat, but she'll tell me a story which will reassure me. Her English is not fluent, and I cannot speak Hindi, but we communicate really well."
Set to take a break from touring, Gold Panda will head back out onto the road later this Spring. Playing a series of European shows, the producer will headline a date in London's XOYO before flying out to SXSW.
