Plan B To Retire Strickland Banks

Plan B has revealed that he will retire his soul based alter ego Strickland Banks on his new album.

Emerging first as a foul mouthed troubadour, Plan B seemed to echo the feelings of Britain's fragmented underclass. Re-emerging last summer, the rapper donned a slick suit for a new Motown influenced direction.

Shocking fans, Plan B won over the mainstream. 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks' was one of the year's most successful albums, turning the slick soul star into an instantly recognisable household figure.

Always keen to move on, it seems that Plan B is set to abandon soul for his third album. Speaking to BBC Newsbeat the singer insisted that Strickland Banks would become a one album project.

"As an artist, someone with many different tastes, I want to go and venture into a different style – maybe reggae, maybe punk, dubstep," he said. "Who knows. There's stuff that I'm experimenting with at the moment that I really want to get stuck into."

When playing live Plan B throws in a heap of disparate influences, while dubstep producers such as 16bit have been invited to remix his material. Continuing, Plan B ruled out making the same record twice.

"Why try and make another soul record when I made the best soul record I could?" he asked. "It was the best I could do. If it could have been any better then I wouldn't have let the label release it when they did."

Currently planning to make a Strickland Banks film, Plan B is also busy completing a hip hop re-working of his hit album. Titled 'The Ballad Of Belmarsh' it will be released independently after being rejected by his label.

'The Ballad Of Belmarsh' is due for release later this year.
