Daft Punk have strongly denied any supposed links to the DJ collective The Third Twin.
Daft Punk have always had a strained relationship with the internet. Using the web to spread information, the iconic French group hyped material for 'Tron: Legacy' with an expert online campaign.
However the internet has also helped to spread vicious rumours. Before the release of 'Human After All' the band were plagued by leaks, while the 'Tron: Legacy' soundtrack was continually hindered by fake material turning up online.
The latest web based rumour is that Daft Punk are moonlighting as DJ collective The Third Twin. The evidence? Erm... well there is none.
The speculation reached fever pitch, with many fans convinced that in order to sidestep hype around a fourth studio album Daft Punk had simply taken off their masks and begun performing under another name.
Issuing a statement, Daft Punk's management have rejected any links with The Third Twin. American magazine Billboard reports:
"It has been brought to the attention of Daft Punk's management that the promoters for the Arenal Sound Festival in Spain have recently issued a press release in which they claim that a band called The Third Twin is 'directly connected' to Daft Punk."
"This is completely untrue. Recent press reports are based on rumours instead of facts. Daft Punk is in no way associated with The Third Twin and the promoters for the Arenal Sound Festival are promoting the show under false pretences."
The Third Twin are set to play Arenal Sound, and the organisers had explicitly stated to fans that the group were Daft Punk under another name.
Despite the very public rebuff, The Third Twin remain on the bill for Arenal Sound.
